Objective
The Maturity Card Game KMM edition aims to identify the maturity level of an organization or specific area based on the concepts of the Kanban Maturity Model and propose possible actions to solve common problems at each stage in order to evolve the maturity.
Through a dynamic game it is possible to engage the team, instill momentum and the outcome is a prioritized action plan.
Preparation
TFor the digital version of the game, the recommendation is to have from 3 to 8 players.
Establish the game duration, which we recommend to be between 1 to 2 hours. Define the scope of analysis, it can be a product, an area or the whole company. Also make sure the role of each player is clear. The game must have:
At least 1 person responsible for answering the questions according to the defined scenario
1 storyteller, responsible for dealing the cards and facilitating the dynamics, changing clockwise with each new round.
In the digital version of the game, book one of the available rooms. You must register with your data and you will receive a link and password to share with other players.
Note: the room will be restricted for access with a password. hen all the players leave it then the room will become available for a new reservation.
When accessing the digital room, make sure the game is clear. Otherwise, reset it before starting.
Shuffle the cards and deal 7 per player.
Now you are ready to start the game.
The Game
For each round, a suit is defined by the system and is marked in the central area of the game.
Each player must choose a card of the defined suit. If the player does not have a card of that suit, he/she must discard any other cards in the main deck.
Players place their chosen cards face down in the center of the table as hypothesis.
The storyteller opens one of the hypothesis cards face up on the table and reads the scenario described.
Players must then analyze whether this hypothesis is valid for the chosen scenario.
If it is not valid, it should go to the discard area, as it means that the problem does not exist.
The process is repeated for the other hypothesis.
TIP: To validate the hypothesis, answer the question: Is this scenario possible in our environment? If the answer is “yes” or “I don’t know”, consider it valid.
After opening all the hypothesis cards, voting takes place.
Each player must vote for the card they believe to be the most relevant. Relevance can be considered based on the scenario that can bring greater gain with less investment, when solved.
Reveal the owners of the cards and count the points of each player, according to their card and the number of votes. Do the same with the card scores and record them on the results sheet.
Deal a new card to each player and then start a new round.
Winning the Game
The game is over when the reserved time is out or when all cards go out. The player with the most points is the winner.
Deal the cards that contain valid hypothesis according to their color and level. In the digital version, remove the Objective bar on the top of the screen to see the colors of each level.
Check also the results sheet and generate your report with prioritized actions according to stage and relevance according to the team and put it into practice in order to evolve the maturity level.
Punctuation
Each card has a different score according to its number. 1=1, 2=2, 3=3, ….. 10=10, J=12, Q=15, K=17, A=20.
For each vote, add 2 more points to the card. In case of unanimity, add 3 points.
Board
The board is based on the Kanban Maturity Model, so it represents different levels of maturity, including transition stages between them.
It is common for companies to have validated hypothesis for different levels, so the prioritization happens from the stages of lower maturity to those of higher maturity.
During gameplay, voting on issues can also change the priority of an action.
A company is only considered at a higher level when it does not have problems common to lower levels.
Each level is identified with a color, place the cards in each of the spaces defined according to these colors.
